Koffel | Brininger | Nesbitt Managing Partner Brad Koffel recently secured a Not Guilty verdict on behalf of a client who was facing multiple sexual assault charges.
As reported by The Logan Daily News, Mr. Koffel represented a Wood County man who was charged with 11 felony counts related to an alleged sexual assault on a single victim. This included six counts of rape (a first-degree felony), three counts of sexual battery (a third-degree felony), one count of gross sexual imposition (a fourth-degree felony), and one count of kidnapping (a first-degree felony).
Following a lengthy trial, a Hocking County Common Pleas Court Jury deliberated for less than an hour before delivering a verdict that completely acquitted Mr. Koffel’s client on all 11 counts.
Speaking with The Logan Daily News about the victory, Mr. Koffel stated that the defense team expected a quick verdict:
“We knew when we took the case that we had an innocent man falsely accused. And we feel for the accuser. In her mind, something happened.”

Mr. Koffel additionally thanked the jurors for their patience through the long trial, and for their willingness to demonstrate that the criminal justice system can work effectively even in cases involving difficult allegations of sex crimes.
Their verdict, he said, shows that the process works.
“Accusers, victims, people who believe they’ve been sexually assaulted, they need to come forward. But people who are falsely accused… need to come forward as well and be prepared to defend themselves all the way through a jury trial.”
